NASA’s Adminstrator, Bill Nelson, remembered Nichelle Nichols in a statement:
“Nichelle’s advocacy transcended television and transformed NASA. After Apollo 11, Nichelle made it her mission to inspire women and people of color to join this agency, change the face of STEM and explore the cosmos. Nichelle’s mission is NASA’s mission. Today, as we work to send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon under Artemis, NASA is guided by the legacy of Nichelle Nichols.”
Actress Nichelle Nichols who played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in “Star Trek” died on July 30, 2022 aged 89 years, was one of the first leading black female characters on US television.
BIDEN’S CLIMATE SUMMIT ON 23 APRIL, 2021
US President Joe Biden says “Science is back” in his Earth Day message on 22 April, 2021.
On 23 April, 2021 he held a virtual meeting with world leaders on climate change.
Those in the meeting include some African leaders like President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Buhari pledged Nigeria’s commitment towards the attainment of the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
He commended President Biden for convening the summit which, he said, will be instrumental in galvanising support for the implementation of the Paris Agreement and its Katowice Rulebook.
President Buhari further commended President Biden for returning the US to the Paris Agreement.
President Biden pledged the commitment of US to the ideals of the Paris Agreement.
