Africa’s low R&D funding

Africa has the lowest per cent Gross Domestic Product budget for research and development in the world.

The 54 African countries still allocate less than one per cent of GDP for research and development.

For USA, it is 3.4%;

China, 2.4%;

Israel, 5.7%;.

South Korea, 4.9%;

Taiwan, 3.6%;

North Korea, 3.5%;

Japan, 3.3%;

EU, 2.2%;

France, 2.23%;

Israel, 6.3%;

Singapore, 2.2%;

Switzerland, 3.3%;

UAE, 1.5%;

South Africa, 0.85%;

Egypt, 0.72%;

Kenya, 0.81%;

Morocco, 0.71%

The result is the continent’s poor economic performance and development.
