A lion killed its handler in the morning of 28 September, 2024, in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park, Abeokuta, Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.
The handler, identified as 35-year-old Babaji Daule, who is said to be well-trained, had gone to feed the big cat in the morning.
The security officer to the park said the deceased forgot to lock the door to the inner pen as he entered the enclosure to feed the lion.
As a result, the lion escaped into the outer enclosure and attacked the handler by mauling him in the head and neck.
He died shortly after from his injuries.
The lion was shot dead.
