IAEA DG, Grossi, visits Kursk NPP in Russia

The Director -General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, Rafael Grossi, on August 27, 2024, visited the nuclear power plant in Kursk, western Russia, in the theatre of the Russia-Ukraine war.

He described the situation in the plant as “serious.”

Grossi expressed deep concern that the ongoing war may damage the reactor and cause a nuclear accident.

He reportedly saw evidence of a drone attack within the premises of the nuclear power plant.

The Kursk NPP has four reactors, but only two are operational for electricity generation.
