Shenzou-14 taikonauts talk with African students

The three Shenzou-14 taikonauts will be talking with African youths from space.

This is to encourage their interest in space science and technology.

The event planned for late August, 2022 will be televised live in China’s state-controlled media, CGTN.

A statement from China’s space agency says “Talk with Taikonauts” is collecting questions from “Young African Friends” on the internet.

You can email your question to: au@chinaculture.org or chinamission_au@mfa.gov.cn with the subject “Talk with Taikonauts.”

Short videos and photos are also welcome.

The deadline to submit questions is July 17, 2022.

The taikonauts are: Chen Dong as Commander; first Chinese female astronaut, Liu Yang, and newcomer, Cai Xuzhe.

Liu was a member of the Shenzhou-9 mission of 16 June, 2012 and spent 12 days in space while Chen was a member of Shenzhou-11 in 2016.

Chen and Liu were in the Southern African country of Namibia in 2019 and met with students.

The three taikonauts in the space station recently delivered a special virtual tour to 300 youths from Hong Kong.

They were launched on 5 June, 2022 and will spend six months in space.
