Astronaut Michael Collins, the pilot of the Apollo 11 Command Module, Columbia, has died.

He died of cancer on 28 April, 2021. He was 90 years old.

Apollo 11 was the first manned flight to land on the Moon on 20 July, 1967.

Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin were in the Lunar Module, Eagle, that touched down on the Moon.

Armstrong, the Mission Commander, was the first to step out making him the first man to step foot on the Moon.

Aldrin followed making him the second man on the Moon.

Collins, afterwards said he was very concerned about Armstrong and Aldrin’s safety as he orbited the Moon alone, piloting the Command Module, Columbia, waiting for them to return.

The idea of returning to Earth alone, he said, was scary.

Armstrong (5 August, 1939 – 25 August, 2012) is late.
