Matthew Adepoju heads Nigeria’s space agency, NASRDA

Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Matthew Olumide Adepoju as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA.

He replaces Dr Halilu Shaba, who was appointed in 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari. Dr Halilu Shaba was in the third year of his five-year tenure.

Dr Adepoju has been in NASRDA for 13 years and was the Director of Strategic Space Applications before his appointment.

He has a doctorate from University of Leicester in Geographic Information Science (2006), and a Master’s degree in the same discipline from the University of Nottingham (2002).

He was President of Geoinformation Society of Nigeria from November, 2017, to January, 2022.

He has assumed office immediately and becomes the fourth substantive Director-General of NASRDA, after Prof Robert Boroffice, Prof Seidu Mohammed and Dr Halilu Shaba.

He pledged to work assiduously towards using space science and technology for national development.
