Tukur Mohammed Lawal Funtua has been appointed Managing Director of the Nigeria Communications Satellite ltd.
He replaces Dr Abimbola Alale who retired from service.
Funtua is a Chemical Engineer from Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria.
He also holds an MBA and is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental and Sustainable Development in the University of Port Harcourt.
He was born on 24 November, 1966 and worked last as a Director, BUA Cement Plc.
He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers.
Mrs Uwa Suleiman, Senior Personal Assistant and Spokesperson to the supervising Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, on 23 December, 2022 said Funtua’s appointment has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
It is for a duration of four years.
NigComSat ltd was incorporated on 4 April, 2006.
It is the owner of NigComSat-1R communications satellite.
The first Managing Director of the company is Ahmed Timasaniyu who was sacked and replaced by Dr Abimbola Alale in 2015.
That was under President Goodluck Jonathan.
President Buhari extended Dr Alale’s tenure for another four years in January, 2019.
Funtua’s appointment takes immediate effect.
