Three of the top-20 rated tennis players in the world have tested positive for Covid-19 and pulled out of Wimbledon.
Marin Cilic was the first to test positive followed by Matteo Berrettini and withdrew from their first-round ties in Wimbledon 2022.
Number 17, Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, became the third men’s withdrawal in the first four days of 2022 Wimbledon after testing positive for Covid-19.
His opponent, Colombia’s Daniel Galan, got a walkover to the third round.
Tamara Korpatsch, 27, German ranked WTA number 110, who was knocked out in the first round on 27 June, 2022 by British Number 4, Heather Watson, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2, announced on 2 July, 2022 that she has tested positive for Covid-19.
While in Wimbledon, possibly infected then and without wearing face masks, she took pictures with French Open champion, Rafael Nadal and John Isner.
Nine-time Wimbledon Women Singles winner, Martina Navratilova, was absent from Wimbledon’s centenary celebrations on 3 July, 2022 because she tested positive for Covid-19 in the morning.
Reigning Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic, who refused to be vaccinated against Covid-19, is also in the tournament.
For not being vaccinated, Djokovic was stopped from playing in the Australian Open in January, 2022 and was deported from that country.
He may not be allowed to enter the United States to compete in the US Open in August, 2022 for the same reason.
British government guideline does not require that you must take Covid-19 vaccine shots to enter Wimbledon.
However, if you do not feel well, you are encouraged to test on your own; reveal that you are positive and withdraw from the tournament.
For the first time since World War II, Wimbledon, the oldest Grand Slam tennis was cancelled in 2020.
